SECTION 9 - COACHES AND PARENTS EXPECTATIONS
PART I - COACHES
The League seeks to establish clear expectations for the behavior, leadership, and responsibilities of all coaches and sideline
personnel in Lone Star Legends Flag Football. Coaches are the foundation of league culture — mentors, teachers,
and role models.
Head Coaches and Assistants must take seriously the privilege and responsibility that comes with their
role. Each coach is entrusted with shaping not only athletic skill but also character, leadership, discipline,
and resilience in every player. The way our coaches teach, speak, and carry themselves defines the
league’s reputation and the values we pass on.
A – Coaching Standards & Philosophy
Every coach represents Lone Star Legends Flag Football, their community, and the legacy of Texas football —
discipline, respect, teamwork, and faith. Coaches are teachers first; winning is earned through
preparation, accountability, and effort — not through arguing calls or exploiting rules. Coaches must
maintain positive communication with players, parents, and officials at all times. The league reserves the
right to discipline or remove any coach who fails to uphold these standards.
Eligibility & Background Requirements:
– Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches may be parents or unrelated community volunteers, but all must:
• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Pass a league-approved background check prior to participation.
– Youth Coaches may be 12–17 years old, selected based on merit, maturity, and leadership ability.
– Youth Coaches must:
• Apply directly with the league and receive approval before being selected by Head Coaches.
• Coach in an age group younger than their own.
• Never be left unsupervised with players.
• Not participate in player discipline (this is the responsibility of adult coaches).
B – Sideline Management
Only rostered coaches and players are permitted within the team-tent and immediate sideline area during play. Parents and
spectators must remain three feet back from the sideline boundary. Each team may have one Head Coach,
two Adult Assistant Coaches, and one Youth Assistant Coach on the sideline. The Head Coach is
responsible for the behavior and conduct of all assistants and players. Youth Assistant Coaches are
considered full members of the staff and may act or engage according to the Head Coach’s instructions.
On-Field Coaching Allowances:
– Ages 3–4 and 5–7: Up to two coaches allowed on the field during play.
– Ages 8-10: One coach allowed on the field during play.
– Ages 11 and above: All coaches must remain on the sideline at the snap.
– Coaches on the field may be the Head Coach, an Assistant, or a Youth Coach — at the Head Coach’s
discretion.
C – Interactions with Officials
Referees’ decisions are final; judgment calls are not open to protest. Coaches may request rule
clarifications respectfully during official stoppages only. Yelling, arguing, or aggressive approaches toward
officials result in a 10-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty. Repeated offenses or escalation result in
ejection for the half. Coaches share responsibility for ensuring that players and parents follow all referee
instructions.
D – Sportsmanship and Player Development
Coaches must show respect for all players, regardless of team or outcome. Post-game handshakes or
recognition are mandatory. Coaches are responsible for teaching safe play — no pushing, tripping, or
rough tactics. The focus is developing football fundamentals: positioning, awareness, decision-making, and
teamwork. Verbal abuse of players, officials, or spectators may result in removal at referee's discretion.
E – Youth Coaching Development
Lone Star Legends Flag Football believes in building not only players but also the next generation of coaches.
Youth Assistant Coaches are encouraged to learn strategy, communication, and leadership through real
experience under the guidance of their Head Coach.
Youth Coaches must first apply directly with the league and receive league approval before being
selected by Head Coaches to serve in an official capacity. The goal is to help young leaders develop the
confidence and skill to one day coach at higher levels — within our league, in high school, college, or even
professional settings. Youth coaches should be taught how to instruct, motivate, and manage with the
same discipline expected of adults. Head Coaches are expected to mentor youth assistant coaches and hold them to a high standard of conduct.
F – Prohibited Behaviors
Violation Consequence
Arguing or using profanity toward officials 10-yard penalty + warning
Entering the field during live play without authorization 10-yard penalty
Continued sideline disruption after warning Ejection for the half
Verbal abuse or taunting of any participant Immediate ejection for the half
Physical confrontation or threatening behavior League suspension or removal
G – Enforcement & Review
Ejections apply for the remainder of the half and are automatically reviewed by the league. A second
ejection in one season results in a one-game suspension. Reinstatement requires commissioner approval.
The league may discipline, suspend, or permanently remove any coach whose actions compromise
integrity or safety.
H – Summary
Coaches define the culture of Lone Star Legends Flag Football. Leadership, teaching, and humility are the marks of
a great coach. Our sidelines must embody Texas football values — competitive, structured, disciplined, and
honorable — while building both players and future coaches for generations to come.

PART II - PARENT CONDUCT

A - Parental Expectations

Lone Star Legends Flag Football expects all parents and spectators to conduct themselves in accordance to league policies outlined at player registration and also State Law. Verbal or Physical Abuse of league employee's, volunteers, and officials, will never be tolerated. Confrontation with other parents will not be tolerated. It is important to maintain a positive, family friendly, environment for the kids.

B - Discipline and Removal

The League Director/Manager and or a head referee may ask a parent to leave, at their discretion, if it is deemed the parent is creating a hostile environment. If a parent is asked to leave and refuses, in extreme situations, law enforcement may be called.

C - Culture
At Lone Star Legends Flag Football, we are building a family friendly community built on character and integrity. We understand that enthusiasm for the game leads to emotions running high, but please remember the kids are watching and we should all set the best example for them!
