SECTION 7 FIELD SET UP AND LAYOUT

This section will define the proper field layout, markings, and equipment used in all Lone Star Legends Flag Football divisions to ensure consistent, fair, and safe gameplay.

A. Field Dimensions

• Standard Field Size: 20 yards wide × 50 yards long (end zone to end zone).
• 3-4 Division: 20 yards × 20 yards field for smaller players.
• End Zones: 5 yards deep at each end.
• No goal posts are used. Scoring is achieved by crossing the goal line with ball control.

B. Field Markings and Equipment

• End Zones: Marked by tall orange cones at each corner.
• Sideline Markers: Flat orange cones placed every 5 yards along both sidelines for yardage reference.
• Midfield Marker: Tall orange cones placed at midfield sidelines. (First Down)

• Back of the endzone reference markers: At the back of each endzone, 3 yards from the sideline 2 tall orange cones will be placed for WR 3 yard alignment rules. In the middle of the back endzone boundary spaced 3 yards apart two flat yellow cones will be placed for LOS alignment reference.
• Line of Scrimmage Markers: Two flat yellow cones placed 3 yards apart laterally across the field to indicate
the LOS.
• Blitz Line Markers: Two flat blue cones placed 5 yards behind the LOS, aligned with the yellow markers.
The blitz line moves with the line of scrimmage as the ball advances or retreats in 5-yard increments.
• Cones and equipment must be set up before each game and verified by both coaches and referees prior
to kickoff.

C. Sideline and Bench Area

• Each team will occupy one sideline designated by the league before game start.
• Coaches, assistants, and players not on the field must remain within their bench area at all times.
• Parents and spectators must stay outside designated sideline barriers and may not cross into team
zones.

D. Pre-Game Field Check

• Referees will inspect the field prior to game time for hazards or missing equipment.
• Both coaches must approve the setup before the possession selection.
• Cones should be rechecked at halftime and reset as needed.
• Any field condition deemed unsafe by the referee must be corrected or marked off before play resumes.

E. Lighting and Surface

• Games may be played on grass or turf surfaces approved by the league.
• Evening games require sufficient field lighting to clearly see the ball and flags.
• Standing water or excessive mud on the field may result in delays or rescheduling for player safety.

F. Official Ball Placement and Spotting

• The referee will spot the ball in the middle of the field at the location where the previous play ended.
• The Defensive Start Line will be adjusted so it is always 5 yards from the LOS.
• Cones must be adjusted as needed to maintain proper alignment with the ball placement.
