SECTION 2 LEAGUE STRUCTURE

Lone Star Legends Flag Football operates as a competitive youth flag-football league emphasizing competition, player development, and passion for the game. We also strive to build and strengthen family and community ties through our organization by partnering with parents, schools, churches, and businesses throughout the communities we serve.

Season Format

Lone Star Legends Flag Football operates three competitive seasons each year — Spring (March–May), Summer (June–August), and Fall (September–November) — each following a 10-week structured calendar designed for development, competition, and fun.

Team/Game Play Format

Lone Star Legends Flag Football plays a 5 on 5 format with competitive rules for ages 5-16. Ages 3-4 play a simplified noncompetitive format.

Target roster size is 6-10 players per team. Age groups will be formed in 2 to 4 year age brackets (2 when possible) and players who are appropriately sized/skilled may be approved to play up or down one bracket at the commissioner's discretion with parent and player consent. Minimum 3 teams of 6-7 players to form a bracket, ideal bracket size is 4-8 teams.

In the 5-16 age group teams must field a minimum of 4 players to avoid forfeiting a game. (Games may be played 4 on 5) The league will attempt to have reserve players for each age group/bracket from adjacent age groups who can act as substitute players to avoid forfeiture. These reserve players must be appropriately sized. In the 3-4 age group a team may play with only 3 players if necessary. No reserve players may play down into 3-4 from higher brackets due to safety concerns.

Each team may have one Head Coach, up to two Adult Assistant Coaches, and up to two Youth Assistant Coaches. Only one Youth Assistant Coach may be under age 15.

Team Construction

1. A Skills Evaluation Day is held before each season where players are timed, tested, and evaluated.

2. Coaches participate in a live draft to ensure balanced and competitive teams.

3. Coaches’ children are automatically placed on their team.

4. During registration, players may request to play for a specific coach and forgo the draft process. They may still participate in the Skills Workout but will not enter the draft.

5. A coach may accept up to two non-relative players per team. Any additional player requests must be approved at the League Commissioner's discretion. The first non-related player accepted by a coach, results in loss of 2nd round draft pick, the next results in the loss of 3rd round draft choice.

6. Rule 5 applies only to every Spring season. A coach may carry their entire roster into the Summer and Fall Seasons provided they stay with the same team (Uniform/logo). (With each parent approving for their child or choosing to go back into the draft) This is done so parents can forgo new uniforms for summer and fall and receive a discounted rate reflecting that choice and also to build on team continuity for higher level play.

7. New players who did not play in the Spring may either request a coach (commissioners' discretion to approve due to roster size constraints) or will enter the draft in week 1 of the summer/fall sessions.

8. Every Spring rosters will be reset.
